🚨URGENT: PITTSBORO CLIMATE ACTION ALERT 🌎

Speak up for Pittsboro Climate Action and Stop Chatham Park's South Village Big Area Plan

As Pittsboro prepares for a huge population increase of over 1,000% due to already approved developments, it faces a big challenge. As it continues to spread out, building more roads will lead to more cars, more traffic and pollution, more loss of forested areas and more climate impacts.

We have the opportunity right now to impact Pittsboro (and Chatham County’s) growth and climate policy:

1. Urge the Pittsboro Town Commissioners and Mayor to rapidly pass a climate vision and policy with serious land-use content that fights sprawl and encourages dense, walkable, bikeable development.

Attend the Pittsboro Town Board meeting on Monday May 12 at 6 pm to support a strong Climate Action Plan vision and framework. Meeting is at the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center (1192 US-64 BusinessWest, Pittsboro) - see AGENDA . Urge them to not allow Chatham Park to have one “Small Area Plan” for all of South Village. (There’s nothing small about it.) This issue will go to the Planning Board first, but it's good to start talking to the BOC about it now.

2. Speak against the proposed Chatham Park's one big “Small Area Plan” (SAP) for all of South Village's 5,000 acres, in favor of a series of smaller SAPs of 500 to 1,000 acres each.

South Village is all of Chatham Park’s land south of Town and a BIG Area Plan is the wrong way to do this. Pittsboro needs to have a much larger say in how South Village is developed that will not result in more cookie cutter sprawl. Lobby Pittsboro Planning Board members on the benefits of planning for smaller area plans that include more thoughtful consideration of environmental and economic conditions, and more feedback and engagement from the current community.
