Fight the SSEP: Easy Action to Protect Communities by Oct 6
9/19/25
What better way to keep our state’s water safe than by getting up and taking action? We have an action for you today that doesn’t even require standing up!
What I Ask of You: Please take a few moments to submit a comment asking The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) to deny the 401 permit for SSEP if you haven't already.
Visit this document for a comment guide.
Comments can be made by anyone in NC
They can be as simple as "Please deny the 401 permit to the SSEP", "I oppose the SSEP because of negative impacts on our state's water", etc.
Comments are due by 5pm on Monday, October 6th
Why Does This Matter? This is a CRITICAL moment of public engagement! Recently, NCDEQ’s Division of Water Resources (DWR) has approved the 401 water quality certification for the proposed T-15 Reliability Project proposed by Public Services Company of North Carolina (PSNC), which is doing business in North Carolina as Enbridge Gas North Carolina.
The pipeline is expected to cross over 100 waterways within the state, connecting the MVP Southgate pipeline – that does not yet have authorization to be built – to Duke Energy’s proposed gas plants on Hyco Lake. (Check out Clean Water for NC’s awesome maps here to see specific, easy-to-read, water crossings).
While this is very bad news, there were amendments to the T15 permit that wouldn't have happened without the work of public comments from community members like you. Those should be celebrated.
So make your comment for the folks in Oak Ridge who could have the SSEP be their THIRD pipeline on their property. Do it for the children, veterans, elderly, and disabled who live inside the blast impact radius of the project in Oak Ridge and Kernersville. Do it for the Southern Pigtoes, the Northern Long-Eared Bats, and the Bog Turtles across our state who are already struggling to keep their populations alive. Do it for the water! For the air! Do it for your grandchildren’s grandchildren. Most of all, do it because you can. Doing one thing today, no matter how small, can make a big impact tomorrow.

Looking for a volunteer opportunity? Interested in taking action? Hungry for pizza?
Many people in potentially impacted communities have not been notified of the project and deserve to know how the SSEP pipeline could impact them.
Join us for an afternoon of door-knocking to talk to residents who could be directly impacted by a massive polluting facility along the pipeline near Lexington. We’ll share information about the impacts of this project and how local residents can get involved in the fight against the SSEP.
There will be an option to carpool, depending on your location. No prior experience is needed to join! You will be door-knocking in a group, and we will provide the training and resources you need. Whether you can spare an hour or a full afternoon, your involvement will have an impact! If you have any questions, reach out to Crystal with Clean Water for NC at Crystal@cwfnc.org

In times like these, we must stay hopeful. We must stay passionate. We must stay loud. We can not and will not stop fighting for our future.
