Don't Miss Sunday's Rally: Stop Pipelines & Protect Our Communities

Hi folks! Wow, what a busy month this has been! Many exciting things are happening in the environmental scene. Folks around the Southeast are learning how the interests of corporate profits have taken priority over the health and safety of the people living in impacted communities. The room was almost full of people who came out to speak in support of the EPA at the hearings in Asheboro on 1,4-dioxane pollution (check out our socials! Myself, Emily, Anita, and Jessica all spoke on behalf of HRA!). Also, led by Appalachian Voices, dozens of people came to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality hearings to voice their opposition to the Southeast Supply Enhancement Project. And 7 Directions of Service mobilized over 50 environmental stewards from across the whole country to learn about how our work can be aligned with the Rights of Nature.

Emily and I also had the incredible opportunity to connect with Sheny Lemus, a powerful water defender of the Xinka Indigenous People who has been leading her community in Guatemala to fight back against corporations taking advantage of her people. We discussed water quality, macroinvertebrates, and strategies to mobilize the community. We also spent some intentional time by the Haw River, sitting with the beauty and power of our water, the life-giver.

This is a fight that connects the people across the world. Environmental harm for the sake of corporate profit knows no man-made boundaries of nations. We were proud to stand in solidarity and connect her fight to our own here in North Carolina. Please take a few moments to add your voice to their fight: The Xinka Say No and visit Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala to learn more.

I don’t like ignoring the depressing things happening across our nation right now - things are not great right now. Bringing attention to this truth is part of my role as an organizer. However, another part of my role in the fight is to illuminate positivity. Our collective joy, strength, and hope for a better future bring about radical change for ourselves and the more-than-human world around us. So soak it up and let it energize you.

Feel called to take action? Need to tap into some of the good energy of the collective? Please join me at the upcoming Communities Over Corporate Profit public gathering this Sunday!

Come on out Sunday to Freedom Park in Raleigh! Carpool with your friends and family and come stand in solidarity with your greater NC community! There will be tons of fun activities and learning opportunities. Plus, you can come hear me speak on how North Carolina’s water is impacted by the Natural Gas Buildout.

Can’t attend on Sunday? Wanna add your voice? Share the information and sign this petition!

Petition for Governor Stein- chance for anyone in North Carolina to ask Governor Stein to:

  • Reject new permits for fossil fuel pipelines & gas power plants (including MVP Southgate & SSEP Pipeline)

  • Raise wages, not electric bills

  • Make big tech and gas giants pay, and give communities the final say

  • Protect workers & communities from heat, disasters, and a rigged economy

Communities Over Corporate Profits:

We Won’t Pay for Pipelines and Data Centers!

Sunday, October 26, 2025

2-4pm

NC Freedom Park

218 N. Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC 27601

RSVP here!

Important decisions are due soon on whether corporations can build a massive web of new fossil fuel infrastructure and data centers in North Carolina (and force us to pay for it)! The recent rise in data centers proposed in our state is part of the justification for this fossil fuel expansion, even though clean energy alternatives are available!

Join us in NC Freedom Park to tell Governor Stein: we won’t pay for pipelines and data centers!

We’ll have: speakers, art music, fun for kids,

and special guests:

GIANT ROBOT FIGHT CLUB!

Who will win? Team CEO Billionaires or THE PEOPLE OF NORTH CAROLINA?

Why? We’re facing higher electric bills, climate disasters, and a rising cost of living. Our workers and communities deserve higher wages and healthy communities. We won’t pay for pipelines and data centers!

Governor Stein and decision-makers need to put communities ahead of corporate profit. We’re telling them to:

–    Reject new permits for fossil fuel pipelines and gas power plants (including Transco’s Southeast Supply Enhancement Project & Mountain Valley Pipeline Southgate)

–    Raise wages, not electric bills

–    Make big tech and gas giants pay, and give communities the final say

–    Protect workers and communities from heat, disasters, and AI taking jobs

–    Ensure any new data centers are powered by clean energy

Bring signs. No stick-holding placards, please! Refreshments provided.
