5 things you can do to help the haw river this month

Show up at the EMC Water Quality Committee Meeting May 7th (1:30-3:30pm) to show commissioners who their decisions are impacting! Can't attend? Email the commissioners before the meeting!
- We are asking community members to join us at the EMC meeting in person on Wednesday, May 7th, 1:30 - 3:30 pm.

Why? The commission plans to pass a PFAS minimization rule that would be worse than taking no action. This rule would give polluters the shield they need to continue, and even increase discharges, as long as a written plan is in place. This plan was written by representatives of the polluting industries themselves, and the duty of the commission is to protect our environmental resources, not the profits of industrial polluters. If you are able to attend, please email Emily directly - emily@hawriver.org. If you are unable, send them an email before the meeting at this link: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/emcpfasplan

  • Tell your legislator to STOP SB472, the “Amend 401 Certification Process”, which would give the NC Department of Environmental Quality only FIVE DAYS to approve or deny 401 permit applications. This would result in expedited reviews and eliminate public participation processes for major projects like pipelines such as the Southeastern Supply Enhancement Project, which we are working to stop!  Find your reps here!

  • Become a Volunteer with our water quality programs! Join a Trash Trap team, start your own River Watch team, or report sediment pollution through our Muddy Water Watch training! https://www.hawriver.org/muddy-water-watch
